JP and Fighting for our Fundamental Rights

February 17th will go down as one of the ignominious days in our state’s history. Jayaprakash Narayan (JP) is one of the most respected leaders, not just in our state, but in the entire nation. He is known for his honesty and integrity. He has given up a comfortable life as an IAS officer with the goal of cleansing our political system. He has fought relentlessly against corruption and for the fundamental rights of citizens.

It is very unfortunate that the legislators that are responsible for making the laws of the land were the chief provocateurs for a physical assault on JP on the premises of Andhra Pradesh State Assembly on February 17th, 2011. To make matters worse, leaders like KTR, who were educated in the West, instead of championing individuals’ fundamental right of expression, were seen inciting their followers to physically assault JP with the use of filthiest possible language.

For too long, we have hoped for our leaders to stand up and fight for us. Unfortunately, they have failed us. Our elected leaders were mute spectators to the events in the Assembly, just like they have been mute spectators for the last ten years. Ours is a country that is home to leaders like Mahatma Gandhi who took on one of the most powerful countries in the world- The British Empire. Our state is home to fearless fighters like Alluri Sitaramaraju. Our great leaders fought against injustice purely based on a conviction that they were right. That courage and conviction is lost among our leadership today.

The demand for a separate state is not just, but is grounded in prejudice. The allegations of discrimination and under development that have been made by separatists for nearly a decade have been thoroughly refuted by the Srikrishna Committee. In a debate, the first person or group to indulge in physical violence is the one who lost the argument. That is what has happened in the case of separatists’ assault on JP. JP has brought out truth much before Srikrishna Committee did. He boldly came out and said that the separatist allegations did not hold water. He bravely went on TV and aired his views with solid documentary evidence to support his position. Truth is a little too much for the separatists to digest.

I have always had reservations about JP and Loksatta’s position that division of the state is neither good nor bad [I am paraphrasing]. I wished he and his party had taken a clear position on the issue of separation. To my greatest disappointment, Loksatta continued to be ambiguous on this issue. However, I have not run into integrationists who hold personal animosity towards JP. However, for separatists- those that agree with them are their friends and those that don’t should be silenced, even if it means assaulting them physically. This is the kind of culture you see in dictatorial and autocratic societies.

There is one cause that is more important than our state and dare I say even our nation, and that is the protection of fundamental rights of individuals. Whether we survive as a free nation or go the tyrannical way of much of the world is dependent on three simple tenets: life, liberty, and property. In the hierarchy of fundamental rights, protection of life is of the highest order. There is not a single justifiable reason to physically attack another person, other than for self-defence, unless such force is authorized by the law of the land. Unprovoked assault on JP is an assault on person’s fundamental right to life. On February 17th, 2011 our society has taken one step back from being a free society and took one step forward towards a tyrannical society.

Some may question, that there are innocent people being physically assaulted everyday in our nation with no recourse to justice. Similarly, isn’t the JP incident just a drop in the bucket? No it is not. JP is a nationally recognized leader. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress Party Presdient Sonia Gandhi, and many national figures know JP personally. He is a people’s representative and a member of the legislative assembly. If a man of that stature is attacked physically, where is the guarantee for the life of a common man? Separatists have succeeded in sending an unequivocal message to those that disagree with their agenda. There are no limits to how far separatists are willing to go to stifle the voices of those that disagree with them.

Save Andhra Pradesh!

I think we should separate Hyderabad with a Goa Opinion Poll style of referendum. Let the people of Hyderabad decide how they want to be,

The statue demolitions is perhaps the most barbaric incident that India has witnessed since its democracy. And I don't understand how they compare this with suicides.
A boy proposes a girl. Girl rejects, the boy commits suicide. On one hand you feel really bad for the boy. But on the other hand, do you say the girl killed the boy? Is she really responsible for his death?

The demolition of idols on tank bund is not an ‘un expected and instantaneous act’. It is a result of organized conspiracy and poisonous propaganda by separitists especially of professor class like Desapathi, Jayasankar etc..
We have seen in videos Deshapati saying the Bellari Raghava statue is erected on tank bund but not our Paidi Jairaj.. Besides the credentials of both, this fool doesn’t know when the statues are erected in 1986 Paidi Jairaj is still alive. He conveniently ignores the statues of telangana personalities like Suravaram, Tanisha, suravaram, Makdoom, Rudramadevi and others.

Btw.. We saw the results of such hate propaganda in a little moderate way in this blog when UT (as Nellutla) questioned on statue of Sir Mokshagundam Visweswaraya.. And the extreme way is what we saw on the other day.. One of the saddest thing in telugu history.
At this time I want to recall the comments from other blogs which I posted earlier.

Kodandaram Reddy has a history of being a naxalite sympathizer .It is clear that he wants to usurp the movement from KCR in the name of political independence. He is a professor in Osmania University but a dyed-in-wool militant masking with soft speeches. It is because of goons like him that the movement is slowly slipping into the hands of militants .The govt is restraining itself way too much. It snubs the innocent farmers of Srikakulam with bullets and treats the Tvadis with roses. Where is the govt? Today Kodandaram justifies his action, tomorrow they'll attack the Seemandhra people and create a havoc,he will justify that in the name of the movement. God bless Telangana and whatever remains of Andhra Pradesh.

If some one is comparing the statues demolition and 600 Student suicides, then they are forgetting that they are fightinhg for 600 Worthless lives.
The statues of personalities make us remember about our culture and roots. These personalities make us remember about morals and greatness.
Those 600 students didn't have patience and ended their lives.
OR  WHO KNOWS TRS WORKERS LIKE UDYAMA TELANGANA …IN THE NAME OF TELANGANA? [Chakravarthy: I apologizing for breaking my own rule to not censor as long as no bad words aren't used. Your comment was incendiary]
State or no-state there is no need to loose sanity and humanity.
If any one argues about non-existent seema andhra domination etc etc, then You people deserve to be made slaves.

    • satya says:

      >> Worthless lives.

This is harsh.. I Dont agree.. They were forced to act in their weak moments because of the hate speeches. Otherwise, they were all leading their normal lives before Dec 7 2009

Btw.. At the same time, I dont agree on calling them as martyrs

      • AMRAO says:

        Satya garu,
I agree with you. I believe it is an insult to the people who have ended their lives out of desperation and a feeling of hopelessness. The loss to their families is huge and irreparable.
They are not at fault and it is the job of every one in the society to prevent such incidents. The fault lies with the leaders who are driving and inciting these people, who are sensitive and lose the balance of logical reasoning and the natural human fear of death, in a fit of rage .
Instead of sincerely making efforts to prevent these incidents and educating the people not to resort to such things, the leaders used the number to further their own interests. They called the people who ended the lives as martyrs and giving the impression that any one who ends his or her life will become a martyr.

      • Sunil says:

I think what Sammer is trying to convey is – Don't compare statues demolition to student suscides. If you do so, then you are insulting the lives of students who commited suscides.
By the way when did the number increase from 400 to 600 and  to 800.

        • sameer says:

Actually people like kodandaram,KCR,Harish Rao,KTR,Kavitha,TRS Shravan are the culprits here.
Yes some one is correct in saying that people were leading a happy and peaceful life before 7th December.
TRS is riding a tiger, Even if they fall for a minute. They will cease to exist.
P.S, There was an incident that happened in Medak district, where the statue of Telangana talli was burnt by TRS workers and the blamed was made on the local congress MLA.
So people wake up, TRS is playing blackmail and hatred politics on the name of  Telangana

        • sameer says:

The number increased in the books os Kodandaram. I think he is provokign people to commit suicides.
Also, you are insulting the lives of students who commited suscides????
No sane person in the world will die in the name of separate state.
These are all exaggerated figures. Even if a degree student in warangal dies of fever, Kodandaram and co. will project that as suicide in the name of telangana

  5. justice says:

These are the same TRS lleaders who beat up people who were asking compensation for the suicide victims.
